Window Insulation: Preparing for Winter

Recycled Wool Curtains

These warm days are a bit of a gift right now, especially given how wet and cold this summer has been here in Wellington.

I still remember my very first March here. I’d just moved down from the usually balmy Waikato to study. A little windier, perhaps, but not too cold… yet.

We all know what’s coming. Darker mornings and earlier sunsets signal the end of daylight saving (PSA: it ends Sunday 5 April), and it’s usually the first sign that winter isn’t far off.

If curtains or blinds are on your list this year, now is the easiest time to get ahead of it, before lead times start stretching out towards spring. Getting organised early means everything is in place before the colder weather really sets in.

A while back I wrote a guide on the best options for insulating your windows. It is still very relevant, so I’ll pop the link below if you’d like to explore your options in more detail.

Current lead times are:

  • Honeycomb & roller blinds: 4 weeks
  • Curtains and Roman blinds: 6–8 weeks

If it’s something you’ve been thinking about, now is a nice time to start the conversation.

Feel free to get in touch or book a consult when it suits.
